As the Millennium Development Goals that guide the global development efforts from 2000 to 2015 have progressed, governments around the world are negotiating a series of sustainable development goals (Sustainable Development Goals) for the period from 2016 to 2030. The sustainable development goal will remain extreme poverty, but it will increase the challenge of ensuring more equitable development and environmental sustainability.

We test these figures through a separate analysis of the budget contained in the recent National Statistics Development Strategy (NSDS). These strategies have created ideal plans for countries to improve their statistical systems. The attached budget shows that countries are eager to spend up to $1.1 billion a year to increase their statistical systems capabilities, 52% of which come from external sources. While these plans go beyond the proposed sustainable development goals, they show that countries are willing to improve their national statistical systems as required by the sustainable development goals.
