[NEWS] 15th Anniversary of UN Convention Against Corruption: Tackling Corruption From the Top Down Essential

“解決腐敗,賄賂和洗錢以及追回被盜資產是可持續發展目標16下的具體目標。此外,這種行動顯然是維持外國投資,創新和經濟增長的先決條件,”他說。 “但是,反腐敗反應對於確保獲得醫療保健,水,教育和其他重要服務,保護森林,海洋和野生動物以及減少不平等至關重要。”

Mr. Fedotov further highlighted the importance of the Convention for achieving targets under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“Tackling corruption, bribery and money laundering, as well as recovering stolen assets, are specific targets under SDG 16. Moreover, such action is clearly a prerequisite to sustaining foreign investment, innovation and economic growth, “he said. “But anti-corruption responses are also crucial to ensuring access to healthcare, water, education and other vital services; protecting forests, oceans and wildlife; and reducing inequalities.”

Going forward, he urged governments to provide resources for effective implementation of the Convention, particularly to support developing countries, and underscored the need for reliable anti-corruption data to measure SDG progress.

[NEWS] Deep Time Walk: Helping Brands to Engage with the SDGs

Deep Time Walk

The idea of the Deep Time Walk is simple but incredibly powerful: When dealing with the vast dimensions of time and space, we are often unable to grasp the magnitude quantitatively, just through studying the numbers. A Deep Time Walk allows us to walk the timeline of the history of the Earth and also universe, and thus for example, on a walk of 4.6km, if we start with the birth of Earth, each one-metre step represents one million years.

[NEWS] Putting in place sustainable development goals at the UN

The Millennium Development Goals received different comments. They include eight clear goals related to poverty, education, empowerment of women, child mortality, maternal health, illness, environmental sustainability and strengthening global partnerships.

The report of the United Nations on the assessment of progress listed improvements in various indicators. For example, between 1990 and 2015, the proportion of people living in developing countries who live on less than $1.25 a day – determining the limit of extreme poverty – dropped from 47% to 14%.

Another distinctive feature of the Sustainable Development Goals is that they are not only aimed at developing countries. This is a criticism of the Millennium Development Goals. The implication is that they are basically designed to catch up with the rich world. Some sustainable development goals require the industrial countries to take concerted action, not just the advice and assistance of these countries. This is very popular.
