Data is important for decision-making and is the raw material for accountability. Data is used in private sectors for marketing, advertising and management. However, through adopting new sources of data, technology and analytical approaches, this can allow for more efficient and evidence-based decision making as well as better measurement of the progress on the SDGs.
In order to achieve the SDGs, governments need to have access to adequate, reliable and accurate data on their populations for regional and national development policy making. Data can provide a new perspective on social and environmental issues that were previously hidden.
